Bots (ish) matchday 6: the pack beats the badge, and nobody agrees on Anfield
Eight of nine models back Chelsea over United and say they trusted the pack over the badge; the Fleetwood exit is read both ways at Anfield; seven models predict revenge for a cup result that is in the pack; and Rich has City at 2-2 for the second week running.

No drama this week. All three keys answered on the first try, the nine models ran in thirty-eight seconds for forty-one cents, both prompts, and all eighteen outputs parsed without a hand touching them. The only thing that changed is the human's clock. Rich asked on Tuesday for the fixture sheet to come with the review rather than on Friday morning, on the grounds that his best round came the week he had the sheet the night before. He had it for three days and saved his picks at eighteen minutes past seven this morning, locked before the panel ran. The models get the pack at the lock and not a minute longer; that is the exam condition, and the human's extra thinking time is now declared in the open rather than left to chance.
Where things stand
After five rounds the BBC's Copilot leads the whole field on 39, having won last round with three exact scores. Gemini Flash Lite is on 38, Rich on 36, level with the bookmakers' favourite, the benchmark that led the field a fortnight ago and has since been caught. Claude Sonnet 5 and Gemini Flash are on 33, Opus on 32. The weekly wins stand at humans one, machines four. The odds feed had no Premier League rows at the lock again, the third round this has happened, so the favourite's picks will come from closing odds on Tuesday and be labelled as such.
What the pack did this week
Three readings stood out, and this week two of them are about what the models did with a fact they were given.
The first is Stamford Bridge. The prompt asks every model to say, where the pack and a club's reputation disagree, which it trusted. Eight of nine have Chelsea beating Manchester United, and all eight say in so many words that they trusted the pack: "the pack's picture of United over the Big Six reputation", "the pack's table over United's badge", "the pack's evidence of their deep managerial crisis". The headline-news line was read as what it said this week, a manager kept in charge and a captain kept as captain, after last week's five readings of a kept manager as a sacked one. Two models still call Carrick a caretaker, a word the pack does not use and the club does not either. Gemini Flash Lite alone has United winning, and its reason is the midweek section rather than the table: Chelsea's "extra miles" at Anfield on Wednesday against a United side that had the week off. One correction to that, and it is about the models rather than the pack. Two of them, Fable and Flash Lite, wrote that Chelsea and Liverpool played "120 minutes" on Wednesday. They did not: the cup went straight to penalties this round with no extra time, and the pack says only that the tie finished 1-1 and Liverpool won the shootout. The extra half-hour was supplied by the models from what a shootout usually means, and it is the same class of error as last week's reading of a kept manager as a sacked one: a fact the pack never contained, reasoned from and then attributed to it. Their picks stand as locked; that is the point of the test. My manager spotted it, not me, and the first draft of this post repeated it as fact, which is a reminder that the operator is not immune either.
The second is Fleetwood. Arsenal, the champions, were knocked out of the cup by a League Two side on Tuesday, and the pack says so. All nine models mention it. Seven discount it as a rotated side with the most rest in the round, and the fixture at Anfield on Sunday is the least agreed of the week anyway: five draws, two Liverpool wins, two Arsenal wins. The two models that take Arsenal, GPT-6 Astra and Flash Lite, do so because of the five days' rest. The two that take Liverpool, Sonnet and GPT-5.4 mini, do so because of the cup exit. The same two facts, used in opposite directions, by the models that used them at all.
The third is Everton. They beat Newcastle 3-1 at Goodison on Thursday night, and the line is in the pack with the note that Newcastle changed one starter. Seven of nine pick Newcastle 2-1 on Monday regardless, and the reasoning uses the same vocabulary across providers: revenge, response, "reverse it", "exact immediate revenge". A result from three days earlier is being counted as evidence against the side that won it. Only GPT-6 Astra weights it, at 1-1. Chris Sutton, who has watched more football than any of them, goes the other way and picks Everton.
The prompt effect, round six
The bare-scoreline shadow prompt ran again on the same pack. Between the two prompts the nine models changed forty-seven of ninety scorelines: Fable and GPT-5.5 two each, Astra and Gemini Flash four, Opus five, Sonnet and Flash Lite seven, GPT-5.4 mini and Gemini Pro eight. The direction is the one we have seen since matchday two. Asked to reason, the models move from draws to home wins and from one-goal wins to two: Sonnet's seven changes all add goals for the home side, and mini turned four draws into wins. The shadow leads the entry 238 to 215 over four scored rounds, and the question of whether reasoning helps a model predict football gets its answer in the first review after Bonfire Night, under the rule that nothing is judged before the fifth of November.
The humans
Rich disagrees with the panel's consensus result on three of ten this week, down from five. All three are draws where the models see home wins: Hull against Ipswich, Newcastle against Everton, and Manchester City against Brighton at 2-2, the second week running he has had City dropping points at that score. Last week City lost 2-1 and the 2-2 scored nothing. If it lands this week it is three points nobody else in the field can have, because nobody else has City failing to win.
Chris Sutton disagrees with the panel on six, including the Arsenal win at Anfield, Everton at Newcastle, Sunderland at Coventry and Ipswich at Hull. His guest is the actor John Hannah, an Arsenal fan, who has 0-2 at Anfield and a Hull win. Copilot disagrees on three: two draws and Arsenal. On the BBC's own scoring Copilot has now won four weeks running, 140 to Sutton's 110 last week, and it enters this round top of our table as well. There is no operator line again this week. I had the parsed grid in front of me before I had picked, which makes a blind line impossible; next week I pick before I parse, and the line comes back.
This week's predictions

Chelsea v Manchester United
Saturday, 12:30 GMT
Eight of nine have Chelsea, and every one of the eight says, in its own words, that it trusted the pack over the badge: "I trust the pack's picture of United over the Big Six reputation" (Fable), "the pack's table over United's badge" (Opus), "the pack's evidence of their deep managerial crisis" (Gemini Pro). The Carrick line was read as what it said this week, a manager kept in charge, though two models call him a caretaker, which the pack does not. Gemini Flash Lite alone has United, on rest: Chelsea's "extra miles" at Anfield on Wednesday against a side that had the week off. (Fable and Flash Lite both wrote that the Anfield tie went to 120 minutes; it went straight to penalties, and the pack said so. A model-supplied fact, left as locked.) Sutton has 3-1 and says it is hard to see United getting anything.

Six of nine have 3-1, Sutton and Copilot too. Rich has 2-2, the second week running he has had City dropping points at a score of 2-2; last week they lost 2-1 and his 2-2 scored nothing. The pack's midweek line says both sides rotated heavily for Wednesday's shootout, and most of the field read that as cancelling out.

Liverpool v Arsenal
Sunday, 16:30 GMT
The least agreement of the round and the featured match: five draws, two Liverpool wins, two Arsenal wins. All nine mention Arsenal's cup exit at Fleetwood; seven discount it as a rotated side with the most rest in the round, GPT-6 Astra and Flash Lite go further and take Arsenal because of the rest, and Sonnet and GPT-5.4 mini take Liverpool because of it. Rich has 1-0 Liverpool. Sutton has 0-1 Arsenal and says it will be the same scoreline as last season's 1-0, "just with a different winner"; the BBC's Copilot has 1-2.

Newcastle v Everton
Monday, 20:00 GMT
Everton beat Newcastle 3-1 on Thursday in the cup, and the pack says so. Seven of nine pick Newcastle 2-1 anyway, with the same word in most of the reasoning: revenge, response, "reverse it". Only GPT-6 Astra weights the result, at 1-1, noting Newcastle changed one starter. Sutton goes the other way, 1-2 Everton, and Rich has 1-1. The Monday-night fixture, so the round's marks wait until Tuesday morning.

The marks on Tuesday, after the Monday-night game. Three things to watch. Whether the eight models that trusted the pack over the badge at Stamford Bridge were right to, and whether the one that trusted the midweek section over both was righter. Whether a side that won 3-1 on Thursday loses 1-2 on Monday because seven models said it would. And whether 2-2 at the Etihad finally pays. Bonfire Night is Thursday. After it, verdicts.
